About Athletic PT in Westlake Village
With the Santa Monica Mountains at our doorstep and lakes and reservoirs all around us, we’re lucky to call this part of the Los Angeles area home. But sometimes the outdoor excursions we enjoy can also lead to unexpected injuries to our neck, spine, back, knee, and shoulders.
Here are a few of the most common injuries we see at our Westlake Village location:
Running and Jogging Injuries

Many of us like to start or end our days with a run or jog through the trails that crisscross the Santa Monica Mountains. A special local favorite is Malibu Creek State Park, where more than 15 miles of trails wind through mountain landscapes.
Whether you’re taking a lap around the Westlake Lake, the Las Virgenes Reservoir, or a series of mountain trails, running injuries are a risk. Some of the most common running-related injuries we treat in our Westlake Village location are ankle, knee, and muscular complications, including tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, stress fractures, and sprains.
As avid runners ourselves, we understand the desire to get back on the trail. That’s why our physical therapists use our Active Rehabilitation Continuum (ARC) program to create a personalized treatment plan that prioritizes getting you back into running shape as quickly as possible.
Cycling Injuries

With paved bike paths running throughout Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, and beyond—including the popular Conejo Creek Bike Path—the region is ideal for road cyclists.
Riders seeking off-road opportunities enjoy mountain bike trails throughout the Santa Monica Mountains, including the Wildwood Hill Canyon in Santa Rosa Valley Park and the tough—and appropriately named—Devil’s Slide in Chatsworth.
While cycling can be an excellent low-impact exercise, bumpy off-road trails or sudden descents can pose a risk. Falls and collisions can lead to shoulder and arm injuries as well as sprains and muscle damage.
We understand that cycling is a vital part of our community, and we want to help you get back on your bike. That’s why we diagnose, treat, and support cycling-related injuries quickly and efficiently, helping you rebuild your strength and return to the trail.
Equestrian Injuries

A unique aspect of life in the Westlake Village area is our access to world-class equestrian trails throughout the foothills and mountains in our backyard. Riding can allow us to reconnect with nature and experience the joy of working with an animal to accomplish a goal.
Yet horseback riding comes with risks. Riders experience falls, sudden movements, and unpredictable terrain, all of which can lead to muscular and skeletal injuries. Some of the most common riding-related injuries we see include fractures, sprains, and injury to the arms, legs, knees, and spine.
Luckily, proper physical therapy treatment can not only get you back in the saddle but also make you a stronger and more balanced rider. We believe in a recovery process that treats painful symptoms first then builds a foundation of strength to carry into your activities post-recovery.

The Athletic PT Approach
At Athletic Physical Therapy, our founder Dr. Stephen Clark spent more than 20 years developing a new way to approach physical therapy. We call this our Active Rehabilitation Continuum (ARC) program, and it helps patients recover and build strength through a three-stage approach. These stages include:
- Addressing—and reducing—the pain, inflammation and other symptoms that patients experience when they first visit our clinic
- Working with patients to increase their flexibility, range of motion and strength through customized therapy
- Helping patients reach their former performance level—and then helping them go beyond to a new level of power
We want to work with you to develop a plan of care that meets your recovery goals and helps you feel better and become stronger. Let’s get started working together on a personalized approach to your recovery.
We are in network with almost every major insurance plan.
