    ABOUT US

About Athletic PT in West Los Angeles

We offer free parking, showers, and early and late physical therapy appointments to successfully rehabilitate all types of orthopedic and sports medicine injuries for residents in the Santa Monica, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, and West Los Angeles area.
Living so close to the Santa Monica Mountains and Santa Monica Bay, we’re lucky to be able to take advantage of outdoor opportunities. But these nearby excursions can also lead to injuries that require orthopedic assessment of the spine, neck, knee, shoulder, hip, feet and elbow.

Here are just a few of the injuries we often see at our Athletic PT location in Los Angeles:

    Cycling and Bike Riding Injuries
Mountain bikers grinding it up the hill in granny gear over the loose packed “dirt” above Mulholland Drive can experience many different types of lower body conditions, ranging from knee strain and tendinitis to lower back pain.
Though the ride—which ranges for 7 miles from the Santa Monica Mountains to north of the Pacific Palisades, before ending near Leo Carrillo State Park in Malibu—is stunning, it can be risky, too.
For example, falling while going downhill on a mountain bike can lead to traumatic upper body injuries like shoulder separations, shoulder dislocations, fractured collar bones, wrist fractures, elbow tendinitis and hand pain or numbness.
For those weekend warriors and cycling enthusiasts who prefer road routes like the Pacific Coast Highway from Venice Beach to Malibu, Athletic Physical Therapy can alleviate painful conditions from road cycling injuries.
These include injuries to the neck and back, such as herniated discs, sciatica, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, hip bursitis, iliotibial band (ITB) syndrome, patellofemoral syndrome and a host of other overuse injuries of the lower back, legs, hips and knees.
    Running and Jogging Injuries
Marathon, 10k and 5k runners experience injuries to the feet, ankles, knees and back as forces from the road travel up through the body. This wear and tear can cause muscle imbalance, tendinitis, stress fractures, shin splints and many lower body injuries.
Whether you’re running along the 26-mile Santa Monica Bike Path or huffing and puffing up the famous but dreaded Santa Monica stairs, your legs, hips and feet will take a beating.
    For example:
The 7th Street stairs lead to Entrada Drive and consist of wood and concrete steps—more than 160 steps in total, with an incline of 109 feet, or 8 stories. These stairs also have higher ground reaction force because there are more steps per vertical foot. All this extra impact can be tough on joints.
The 4th Street stairs lead to Ocean Avenue and consist of more than 187 steps with an incline of 111 feet. Because each step is taller, runners and walkers can quickly wear out key muscle groups.
While biking and running have risks, you shouldn’t let fear of injury stop you from doing what you love. After all, so many of us live in this region because of these opportunities to work out as hard as we want.

If you find yourself struggling with an injury, pain, imbalance, or movement challenge, we’re here to help you get back on your feet. We bring clinical expertise, a passion for helping others, and a love of the Los Angeles region to every patient we treat.
