Jim Lundy, DPT, CSCS, PES
Jim Lundy entered physical therapy after experiencing a low back
injury in 1991. He did not require surgery, however, with time and
rehab, recovered from the painful syndrome. His experience with
that injury gave him the knowledge of what patients undergo and
motivated him into the physical therapy field.
"I remember when I injured my back while lifting weights in
college. I could not stand without pain. That's when I realized
that a physical therapist must be understanding and compassionate
to MY pain."
He has worked in a variety of physical therapy settings such as
hospitals, rehab hospitals, nursing homes, retirement communities,
patient's homes, and outpatient clinics. He has also been an assistant
wrestling coach for three high schools as well as a personal trainer.
He developed two physical therapy clinics within health clubs and
training facilities as he feels that exercise and recovery are intricately
related in a nurturing setting. Additionally, he is one of two therapists
in California to belong to a international association of spine
surgeons.
Dr.
Lundy's professional interests include hip injuries, musician's
injuries especially drummers tendinitis, and low back pain. His
own low back injury led him to develop the BACK O.F.F. program which
uses three simple rules to make you stronger and protect your back.
He has taught these simple rules to variety of large and small companies,
government agencies, and as well as other health care providers.
He is passionate about the rules and back strengthening which further
invigorates his personal research into better treatment methods.
"I really enjoy teaching and giving people information which
really can help them!"
Dr. Lundy's education in sports and hands-on therapy made him realize
that working with a person one-on-one is the only way to effectively
help someone. Therefore, he and his staff plan on individual sessions
with patients in order to decrease pain and attain their goals.
"Being one-on-one with people really allow me to focus on them,
learn about their condition, and get results faster."
Dr. Lundy moved to Athletic Physical Therapy in 2002. He feels that
the combination of hands-on and active patient exercise involvement
at Athletic Physical Therapy is very effective for successful recovery.
Also maintaining constant contact with the physician ensures a team
approach with a patient's recovery. "People just get better
with this combination of hands-on and active patient-centered treatment."
