April Patterson, MSPT
April graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, MA with
a Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2003. While at Northeastern,
April played four years of Division I soccer. “As a previous
college athlete, I can understand the dedication, hard work and
discipline one puts forth in order to achieve his or her athletic
goals. After undergoing my own injuries and physical therapy, I
can personally relate to the frustration and stress that physically
and mentally arises with injuries, and how they can impact one’s
life regardless of their level of athletic activity.”
April
brings this experience to her practice philosophy and stresses the
importance of education and communication as an integral part of
the physical therapy process. “The rehabilitation of a current
injury and the prevention of future injuries go hand-in-hand with
good communication with the referring physician, a thorough physical
therapy evaluation and educating patients about the specifics in
their own body mechanics and/ or injury. Therapeutic exercise programs
should be specifically tailored to one’s body, and how it
needs to function in his or her sport or occupation. These principles
combined with a manual therapy approach help patients succeed in
achieving their goals.”
Throughout her professional experience, April has worked at various
outpatient practices in the Boston area, specializing in orthopedics,
post-surgery and sports medicine. She has attended continuing education
conferences such as the Boston Shoulder and Sports Symposium, The
Mulligan Concept and Richard Jackson’s The Pelvic Girdle.
April and her husband relocated from Massachusetts to Los Angeles
in December 2005. April joined the staff at Athletic PT in January.
Outside of evaluating and treating patients at Athletic PT’s
Westlake Village office, April enjoys figure skating, running, art,
and traveling.
